The number one news item today is the Swine Flu otherwise known as the H1N1 flu. As usual the media is hyping it up as they like nothing better than a good "multiple death" story. Yes this could end up very serious but let's face facts-it's mother nature telling us that the planet is overpopulated and needs to be thinned. Who is effected most by this flu? Countries that have polluted their cities and who's population has weakened immune systems from breathing in the crap that pollutes their air.
Meanwhile our leaders and people in certain industries are trying to convince the masses that they are saving the world by banning plastic bags. Good priorities people.

North Shore Elderly
Judging by the help wanted ads in the Canadian Job Bank and local newspapers it seems that the North Shore of Vancouver is rapidly aging. The majority of the ads are for care givers to the elderly.
I understand that there are plenty of people who are too busy to look after their elderly mothers and fathers and they have the need to hire people who can look after their parents full time. However you have to wonder about those who are offering minimum wage for someone to look after their parents.
$8 an hour to care for your parents? Shame on you people.

HDTV cable box cost scam.
Last year I bought an HDTV capable TV. I figured that as time went on I'd finally be able to afford to be able to buy a cable box and then subscribe to some HDTV channels. As with everything in the technology world the cost of these boxes would go down as time went by. Wrong!
Where I live the price of regular HDTV cable boxes and the PVR cable boxes have jumped up immensely. What is the reason for this you may ask? The cable company here have said it's because the cost to broadcast in HDTV is far more expensive than broadcasting regular TV, and they are recouping their costs by increasing the price of the HDTV boxes.
This is utter crap in actuality. The cable companies make their money in selling the programming that they broadcast not the hardware they sell in order to watch it. They should be making the cost of the HDTV cable boxes cheaper so more people buy them and end up ordering the HDTV channel packages from the cable company, not increasing the cost and making it a luxury purchase.
Either the cable companies are stupid or they realize the general public is and the public is willing to pay the outrageous prices the cable companies are charging for these boxes.

Crime rate statistics baloney.
One again Canadians have been polled about Canada's crime rate and once again Canadians responded by saying there's more crime than ever. The Canadian government on the other hand replies by saying their statistics show that the crime rate is going down.
What a load of BS.
Statistics can be manipulated or just plain understood wrong. The fact is most crime is not reported. Why bother when you feel nothing is going to come out of it? Many years ago I had my walkman (yes a walkman, I did say this was many years ago) stolen from my workplace. There was no point in reporting it, it would just waste my time. Many people who have been victims of crime say the same thing. I work in a large mall where I am privy to listening to all of the security calls. They are constant and range from shoplifting to assault with many others in between. Plenty of time no charges are laid as the stores don't want to waste their time. That is there are so many crimes taking place that they'd never have any time to do any business if they had to deal with the police and the court system.
Then there's the population growth. The population keeps growing, so even if the percentage of reported crime remains the same or slightly lower with more people in the country there are going to be more crimes.
So the fact is there is more crime today than in the past, even if the government wants to be misleading.

Awful cereal commercial
Has anyone seen that awful special-k cereal commercial. The one in the line of special-k commercials with the skinny woman, the Asian woman and the flamboyant homosexual (okay he's less flamboyant in the most recent commercial).
It starts off with them taking a break from a work meeting. The gay guy says something like "the best part of meetings is the break" then he and the Asian lady grab for the donuts and pastries. He offers the skinny lady a donut which she declines. The Asian lady says something to the effect of "oh you're strong" referring to the skinny womans willpower. Then the skinny lady says that she had a new special-k cereal and she's just not hungry It cuts to the image of a cereal bowl being filled with the cereal. Okay what the hell?
First off this lady looks like she should be eating a few donuts to get her up to a proper weight. Does this lady need really need to watch her weight? Secondly is this an adverisement for anorexia? She's not hungry and doesn't need to eat because of a bowl of cereal she ate in the morning?
A final thought, what happened to the other actress who played the skinny lady? Not skinny enough?
